Zanesville, OH is built around the confluence of the Licking and Muskingum rivers, which the Y-Bridge spans with three legs, carrying US 40, the old National Road, across both rivers at once; the current bridge, opened in 1984, is the fifth on the site since 1814. Zanesville served as Ohio's capital from 1810 to 1812, and its pottery and tile industries left museums and outlet shops. I-70 runs along the north edge of the city toward Columbus, 55 miles west, and Ohio University keeps a regional campus here.
