The Market Behind CT Tech Travel Jobs

Travel CT tech jobs sit within a field where ASRT's 2025 survey reported 19.4% CT vacancy. BLS projects about 13,000 annual radiologic technologist and technician openings for 2025-35. That broader occupation includes CT and other radiologic work; the openings are not travel-only.

Choosing a CT Travel Assignment That Fits

CT technologists play an important role in fast-moving areas of healthcare, which can make their skills especially valuable in travel staffing. Hospitals rely on CT imaging for everything from emergency and trauma cases to stroke evaluations, cancer care, and other diagnostic needs that can’t simply be put on hold when a department is short-staffed.

CT has also developed into a distinct imaging specialty with its own credentialing pathway. ARRT's CT credential recognizes technologists who meet discipline-specific education, clinical experience and examination requirements. In the travel setting, that specialization matters because CT travelers are often stepping into departments where they are expected to bring established modality experience from day one.

CT Tech Travel Jobs Common Questions

How much experience do CT tech travel jobs require?

Most travel CT tech jobs require two years of recent CT experience, though some accept one year. Each individual job page lists its experience requirements.

Does ARRT radiography certification also certify me in CT?

No. ARRT's CT certification is separate from its radiography credential. Radiography can be a starting point for the CT pathway, but you must also meet the CT education, clinical experience, ethics, and exam requirements. A radiography credential alone is not CT certification.

Does ARRT certification let me work as a CT tech in every state?

No. ARRT certification does not automatically authorize you to work in every state. If a state requires a license or registration for CT work, you need it before you can practice there. Applying for a license does not mean the state has granted it.

Do I need to keep my radiography credential active if I only work in CT?

Yes, if radiography is your only supporting credential for ARRT CT certification. ARRT requires you to maintain a supporting credential even when you work only in CT. Other accepted supporting disciplines are nuclear medicine technology and radiation therapy.
