Michigan Radiologic Employment and Openings

BLS counted 7,220 Michigan radiologic technologists and technicians in May 2025. This broader occupation includes CT and both permanent and travel employment. The state's 2024-2034 projections estimate 440 annual openings, including both workforce growth and replacement hiring.

Michigan CT Workforce and Quality Oversight

The Detroit-Warren-Dearborn metro accounted for about 44% of Michigan's radiologic workforce in May 2025. BLS metro estimates count 3,150 technologists and technicians, compared with the 7,220 statewide above. This occupation includes CT. For travel CT tech jobs in Michigan, Detroit's size isn't the whole story: more than half of the broader radiologic workforce is located elsewhere in the state.

A designated on-site CT technologist is responsible for ongoing testing under Michigan's quality-control guidance. Other qualified staff may perform the tests, following written procedures. The medical physicist determines the testing program and who can carry it out. That creates a defined technologist role in quality control beyond the annual physics visit, with responsibility that stays at the scanning site.

CT Technologist Travel Jobs in Michigan: FAQs

Does Michigan require ARRT's advanced CT credential?

An advanced CT credential isn't the only route. Michigan's CT operator rule requires current ARRT, CAMRT or NMTCB registration, plus either at least 20 hours of documented CT training and experience or ARRT's advanced CT certification. The training must cover CT equipment, radiation physics and protection.

Can one qualified CT operator cover a team from another room?

The qualified operator must be in the CT room during examinations when a team relies on that person to meet Michigan's operator requirements. Being elsewhere in the department doesn't satisfy that rule. Individual operators who already meet the requirements don't need this team-based route.

Do Michigan's general radiography qualification rules also apply to CT?

Michigan's Part 5 rules exempt CT operators who meet the separate CT requirements in R333.5705. The exemption keeps CT under its own qualification rule. It doesn't waive that rule or automatically qualify a CT operator for work in another imaging modality.

Is every CT dose deviation a reportable Michigan medical event?

A dose deviation by itself isn't the definition. Michigan's guidance requires an unintended event with actual damage to an organ or body system. A physician must determine that the damage was caused, or is suspected to have been caused, by diagnostic CT radiation.
