Questions on Travel Nurse Assignments in Florida
Can my home-state multistate license cover travel nurse jobs in Florida?
Yes, if the license is active, your legal home is that compact state and your privilege to practice in Florida is valid. The Florida Board of Nursing distinguishes a multistate license from a single-state license, which doesn't authorize practice across state lines.
Is my existing Florida RN license automatically a multistate license?
An existing single-state Florida RN license doesn't automatically become multistate. The Florida board requires an application to upgrade it. An active Florida single-state license still authorizes RN practice within Florida; an upgrade matters when you need compact practice privileges elsewhere.
Can I start travel nurse assignments in Florida while state licensure is pending?
Florida law allows up to 60 days of nursing practice when you hold a current license in another U.S. state or territory. Under section 464.022(8), you must submit the proper Florida application and fees before employment and give the employer satisfactory proof of your current license. Applying alone isn't enough.
Can a Florida RN delegate ongoing assessment to a nursing assistant?
Ongoing assessment and clinical judgment cannot be delegated to a CNA. Florida's delegation law limits delegated tasks to predictable, recurring care that doesn't inherently require those judgments. The RN must also determine that the assistant is competent. Extra support staff therefore don't replace the RN assessment component of a role.
