Does CST meet a CSFA requirement for CVOR tech travel jobs?
CST and CSFA are separate credentials. NBSTSA distinguishes the scrub-focused technologist role from surgical first assisting. Holding CST doesn't award CSFA. A listing for a certified first assistant therefore calls for a different credential, even when both roles work on the same cardiac team.
Do CVOR travel surgical tech jobs include replacing an RN circulator?
CMS requires qualified RNs to perform circulating duties. Under 42 CFR 482.51, surgical technologists may assist with those duties when state law and hospital policy permit. An RN must be immediately available to respond to emergencies; assisting doesn't replace that nursing coverage.
Do continuing-education credits automatically renew my CST certification?
CST renewal through continuing education requires AST approval of your credits and a separate NBSTSA renewal application. Completing courses is only part of the process. Plan both steps around your certification expiration date, even if it falls during a CVOR contract.
Is room ventilation enough to control surgical smoke in the CVOR?
General room ventilation doesn't capture smoke at its source. NIOSH recommends local exhaust ventilation, such as a smoke evacuator, alongside room ventilation to control surgical-smoke exposure.
