Travel Jobs for Ultrasound Techs in Texas: FAQs
Do travel jobs for ultrasound techs in Texas require a state license?
Texas doesn't require a separate state sonographer license. The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography lists the states that do; Texas isn't among them. That removes a state licensing step for sonography, while employer credential requirements and the scope of the work still apply.
Is RVT separate from RDMS for ultrasound tech travel jobs in Texas?
RDMS doesn't include RVT. Registered Vascular Technologist is its own credential, earned by passing the Vascular Technology exam and meeting its prerequisites. If you're an active ARDMS certificant who has already passed SPI, you don't repeat that exam to add RVT.
Can scanning continue if an interpreting provider is not immediately available?
Only as an exception under AIUM's supervision standard. An appropriately qualified physician must be readily available to review and interpret examinations. If immediate review isn't available, the practice needs a process for unexpected, questionable or urgent findings and patient callbacks. Limited examinations may use an appropriately qualified advanced clinical provider.
Should an ultrasound schedule allow time between demanding scans?
Recovery time is part of sonography's ergonomic guidance. SDMS industry standards recommend scheduling that reduces sustained strain, including breaks and variation in demanding tasks. They don't set one universal exam quota. Workload needs to account for the physical demands of the studies, not just their number.
