Travel Vascular Sonographer Jobs: Workforce

ASRT reported 12.4% sonography vacancy in responding U.S. departments in 2025. These broader sonography figures don't count current travel vascular ultrasound jobs. BLS separately estimated 92,200 U.S. diagnostic medical sonographer jobs in 2025, including roles beyond vascular studies.

Travel Vascular Tech Jobs in Accredited Labs

In travel vascular sonographer jobs, moving between sites doesn't always mean changing vascular protocols. Under IAC vascular accreditation standards, locations covered by one multi-site accreditation must use the same exam protocols and diagnostic criteria. For travelers, those requirements keep protocols consistent across sites within that accreditation. A shared employer name by itself doesn't guarantee that consistency.

Carotid interpretation criteria have changed. IAC's November 2023 recommendations revised the widely used SRU criteria after research found that the older velocity threshold was too sensitive for identifying moderate stenosis. This is a recommendation, not a universal replacement of every lab's validated criteria. For travel vascular tech jobs, a move between labs can change the criteria used to interpret the same measurements.

Travel Vascular Tech Jobs: Common Questions

Does IAC recognize both RVT and RVS for vascular testing?

IAC recognizes both RVT and RVS among accepted vascular credentials. Its technical-staff standard still requires appropriate training and experience. That accreditation rule doesn't mean an employer must accept every recognized credential for a particular opening.

Which states require a license for travel vascular ultrasound jobs?

As of October 2026, SDMS lists New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota and Oregon as requiring sonographer licensure. Your national credential doesn't replace a required state license. Washington, DC has also enacted a sonographer licensing law, but implementation is pending.

Do I need to retake SPI to add RVT if I already hold RDMS?

Not if you've passed SPI and maintain active ARDMS status. Inteleos SPI guidance allows active certificants to add a credential without repeating that exam. You still need the applicable prerequisites and the Vascular Technology specialty examination.

Will adding RVT reduce my current continuing-education requirement?

Earning a new certification qualifies for a 15-CME waiver under Inteleos policy. That's a reduction in the requirement, not an award of CME credits. Your remaining obligation still depends on your credentials and three-year cycle, so adding RVT doesn't automatically clear every renewal requirement.

How quickly must an IAC-accredited lab finalize vascular reports?

Within two business days for the verified, signed final report. Under IAC's vascular testing standards, urgent findings require immediate communication after the examination. Preliminary findings must be labeled and documented, with a defined process for communicating any substantially different final interpretation.
