Straight Answers on Travel PT Jobs
How much experience do travel physical therapy jobs require?
Most travel physical therapy jobs require two years of recent PT experience, but some accept one year. Each individual job page lists its requirement, so you can compare it with your recent work.
Can I use the PT Compact instead of a new state license?
Yes, if you meet PT Compact eligibility requirements and your home and destination states actively offer privileges. A separate privilege must be granted for each destination before you practice there. Meet that state's law-exam requirements and deadlines; the timing varies by state.
Does renewing my PT license automatically renew my compact privileges?
No. PT Compact privileges need a separate renewal after you renew your home-state license. Their expiration date is tied to the home-state license date in effect when you purchased them. Renewing that license alone does not extend an existing privilege, so both renewals matter if your contract continues.
Can I perform dry needling on a travel PT assignment if I do it at home?
Only if the destination state's rules permit it and you meet the applicable qualifications. APTA describes differing state approaches to dry needling. Your home-state training and permission do not settle what you can do elsewhere; the assignment's duties must fit the destination's practice rules.
