Travel PT Jobs in Georgia: Workforce

Georgia's PT workforce stood at 6,780 in BLS May 2025 estimates. State projections published by O*NET show 18% PT employment growth from 2024 to 2034, with 320 openings a year once replacement hiring is counted. Neither figure is a count of travel physical therapist jobs in Georgia.

Georgia PT Licensing and Regional Employment

Georgia requires you to pass its law exam within 60 days before applying for a PT Compact privilege. That rule covers first-time applications and renewals, according to PT Compact application guidance. An exam you passed for an earlier assignment may be too old to use when you return.

Atlanta accounts for about 63% of Georgia's PT employment. BLS's May 2025 estimates put 4,250 PT jobs in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro area, compared with 6,780 statewide. That leaves roughly 2,530 elsewhere in Georgia. These are employment estimates across job types. For travelers choosing locations, Atlanta is the largest concentration, but a substantial part of the state's PT workforce practices beyond that metro.

Travel Physical Therapy Jobs in Georgia: Answers

Can I use my existing dry-needling training on a Georgia assignment?

Prior training doesn't replace Georgia board approval to perform dry needling. The board requires evidence of at least 50 hours of instruction, a competency assessment and OSHA bloodborne-pathogen education. Compact privilege holders submit their records by email using the board's guide; Georgia license holders follow a different submission route. Approval must be in place before you perform dry needling on the assignment.

How often must a Georgia home health PT review cases with a PTA?

At least once a week. Under Georgia rule 490-5-.01, the supervising home health PT must meet with the PTA to review all patients being treated. Each meeting and the decisions made must be documented. The PT also performs the initial evaluation to set the physical therapy diagnosis, goals, frequency, duration and care plan. The PT must remain available at all times for advice, assistance and instructions.

Does direct access remove the order requirement for hospital PT in Georgia?

Georgia hospital PT still requires an order from the licensed practitioner responsible for the patient's care. The state's hospital rules require that order to be dated, signed and entered in the medical record. Hospitals offering outpatient rehabilitation must also specify how they handle orders from outside practitioners.

Can I keep using my compact privilege if I move permanently to Georgia?

Making Georgia your permanent home requires a Georgia-issued license. If you move from another compact state and already hold a Georgia privilege, the Commission allows you to use it for up to 60 days while awaiting the new license. You must also notify the Commission of your home-state change within 60 days. A temporary assignment by itself doesn't change your permanent home.

Does a Georgia compact privilege also satisfy insurer enrollment?

A privilege authorizes practice, but payer enrollment is separate. The Compact Commission warns that some private insurers require a traditional state license. For an offer involving those payers, a privilege by itself may not meet the credentialing terms. That distinction can affect whether the proposed start date is realistic.
