Travel PT Jobs in Ohio: Work and Inpatient Rehab

Ohio's workers' compensation vocational rehab program prioritizes a return to the original job. The state's return-to-work priorities, effective May 2023, put a modified job or another role with the same employer ahead of a move to a different industry. For travel PT jobs in Ohio that involve injured workers, lifting and walking goals need to connect to the person's job tasks.

Travel physical therapy jobs in Ohio can include inpatient rehabilitation. Medicare's inpatient rehabilitation criteria call for at least three hours of therapy a day on at least five days a week, or at least 15 hours over a week in certain well-documented cases. These hours cover the patient's combined therapy, not three hours of PT or an individual therapist's productivity target.

Questions on Travel Physical Therapy Jobs in Ohio

Will extending an Ohio assignment also extend my compact privilege?

A contract extension doesn't renew your privilege. Renew your home-state license first, then the Ohio privilege after the Commission receives the updated expiration date. Ohio also requires the OH JAM at renewal, except the first renewal. Complete any needed renewal before treating patients beyond your current privilege's expiration date.

What follow-up does Ohio require when a PT treats without a referral?

With the patient's consent, Ohio requires notice to the relevant healthcare practitioner within five business days of evaluation. If there's no substantial progress within 30 days of the initial visit, consult or refer. Exceptions to that 30-day rule cover fitness, wellness or prevention services and problems linked to previously diagnosed chronic, neuromuscular or developmental conditions. Refer sooner for needs outside PT scope.

When does an Ohio PT license expire, and can I renew it late?

Ohio PT licenses expire on January 31st of even-numbered years. Licenses issued on or after October 1st of an odd-numbered year last through January 31st of the second even-numbered year. If yours expires, you can't keep practicing while a reinstatement application is pending. The board must approve reinstatement first.

Do I have to be on site to supervise a PTA on an Ohio assignment?

You don't have to be on site. Under Ohio's PTA supervision rule, the supervising PT must be available by telecommunication at all times and able to respond to patient needs. You remain responsible for directing the PTA's actions. Another type of licensed professional can't replace the supervising PT.
