Travel PT Jobs in Washington: Markets and Handoffs

Seattle's metro has more PTs, but Spokane has a higher concentration. BLS May 2025 estimates count 2,950 PTs in Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue and 580 in Spokane-Spokane Valley. Spokane's PT share of local employment is 33% above the national average; Seattle's is 18% below. For travel PT jobs in Washington, a smaller workforce doesn't necessarily mean PT has a smaller share of the local job market.

In travel physical therapy jobs in Washington, a patient's earlier workers' compensation visits still count when you take over care. Washington Labor & Industries counts standard outpatient therapy visits across the claim; a new referral, surgery or newly treated condition doesn't restart the count. PT and OT visits accumulate separately. For a PT taking over care, the authorization stage follows the patient's claim history, not your first day with that patient.

Travel Physical Therapy Jobs in Washington: FAQs

Can I use a PT Compact privilege for a Washington assignment?

An issued Washington compact privilege can authorize practice without a separate Washington license. The Department of Health requires one of those valid credentials before you begin. An out-of-state PT license by itself isn't enough; compact eligibility and a purchased privilege are separate steps.

Must I pass Washington jurisprudence before a new state license is issued?

Not for licenses issued under the rules effective January 1st, 2026. Washington moved the jurisprudence exam to the first full continuing-education cycle after licensure. WAC 246-915-085 makes it a one-time requirement for newly licensed PTs. This answer concerns state licensure, not a separate compact application.

Does my out-of-state dry-needling experience authorize it in Washington?

Prior experience doesn't replace Washington's intramuscular needling endorsement. The Department of Health requires that endorsement for PTs performing dry needling in the state, regardless of prior experience. Only PTs qualify; PTAs cannot receive it. A general PT credential doesn't itself establish authorization for this procedure.

How many assistants can a Washington PT supervise at one time?

Usually up to three assistive personnel, with no more than one aide when supervising three. Washington supervision rules lower the limit to two in nursing homes and public schools. Up to two PT or PTA students may be supervised in addition. Those setting-specific limits affect the team you can supervise.

When must I reevaluate a Washington patient treated by a PTA?

Washington requires reevaluation at the later of the fifth visit or 30 days if the PT hasn't treated the patient during those visits or that period. The supervision rule also requires reevaluation when the patient's condition changes outside planned progress or goals. The PT must at least visually see the patient.
